KENNETH GILBERT McRAE III, 85, of Little Rock, Ark., passedaway on January 12, 2012 peacefully surrounded by family, in Little Rock, Ark. He was born on February 23, 1926 in Idabel, Okla. to the late Kenneth G. McRae Jr. and Helen WilliamsMcRae of Hope, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his sister Marilyn McRae Bilyeu of Shreveport, La. and his nephew Kenneth Lile Bilyeu of Shreveport, La.

He is survived by four sons: Kenny McRae IV and wife Sherry, of Little Rock, granddaughter Colin McRae Mitchell and husband Guy K. Mitchell III, and great grandchildren, Madeline, Guy and Leslie all of Birmingham, Ala., grandson, Matthew Graves, son, Nathan McRae and grandson, Justin, son Brooks G. McRae and wife Beth, grandson, Grayson, and son, Jeff McRae and wife Emily, grandchildren, Lily, Seth and Evan, cousin Colene Beauchamp Nicholson, all of Little Rock, niece, Nanette Bilyeu of Edmund, Okla., sister, Kay McRae Wallace and nephew, Greg Wallace of Hot Springs, Ark.

He grew up in Hope and Little Rock attending Pulaski Heights Junior High and Hope High School. He graduated high school from Sewanee Military Academy in 1944. After serving in the U.S. Navy, in 1946 he spent a year in Argentina with his uncle Thomas J. Williams. He returned to attend the University of Arkansas, pledging Sigma Chi fraternity, and graduated from Oklahoma A&M.

He married Marion Francis Mouser of Hope, Ark., in 1951 and they had four sons. He began a career in the cattle business at Crow Creek Ranch in Forest City and later moved to Little Rock to manage the Little Rock Stockyards. In 1965 he changed careers to residential and commercial real estate beginning with Rector Phillips Morse.

His interests included a love of the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and reading, story telling and horse racing. Much appreciation is felt for Qiana Roberts his caregiver and the staff at Emeritus Assisted Living in west Little Rock and the palliative care unit at the VA Hospital in Little Rock.

The service will be led by the Rev. David Porterfield, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Hope, Ark., and under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home.

KAY MOORE, 68, of Sherwood, Arkansas, went to be with theLord Thursday, January 12, 2012. She was a member of Sherwood First Baptist Church.

Kay is survived by her husband, Bob Moore; one daughter, Kristi Davis and husband, David of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Blake and Coleman Davis; three sisters, Norma and husband, Don Kandlbinder of Little Rock, Betty Tabor of Benton and Martha and husband, Darrell Harper of Sherwood.

ALEXANDRA REZIN, age 76, died unexpectedly but peacefully January 10, 2012 at home in Little Rock, Ark. Alex was born in Indiana, lived in Wisconsin for many years, and lived the past 20-plus years in Little Rock.

Alex graduated with a finearts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and spent her life teaching private music lessons. Her greatest pride was in the accomplishments of her many students over the years. Alex’s passions included community and cultural activities including the Arkansas Symphony and the Arkansas Arts Center, along with charitable organizations. Alex attended church in Little Rock at Trinity United Methodist Church and Faith United Church of Christ.

Alex is survived by sons, Craig and Brian, daughter-in-law Sharon Rezin, and grandchildren, Quentin, Matthew, and Brittany. Alex also leaves behind niece Molly Phelps, nephew Noel Teeter, plus cousins and extended family.

A memorial service will be held Monday January 16th at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, (501) 224-8300. BRYANT - Thelma Jean Nick Lisko, 79, of Bryant died Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Saline Memorial Hospice Center. Mrs. Lisko was born July 2, 1932, in Tichnor to Arthur and Ethel Smith Nick. She was a homemaker and member ofSt. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Shirkey and Betty Tackett; and a grandson Heath Clayton Carpenter. Survivors are two sons, Gregory Lisko of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Bradley Lisko (Shelley) of Mabelvale, Arkansas; one daughter, Lori Lisko Carpenter of Hazen; one brother, Billy Nick of Greenbrier; one sister, Willa Dome of El Dorado; 10 grandchildren; and eight greatgrandchildren.

HEBER SPRINGS - Martha Alice Fox Sartain, age 91, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012. She was born on January 10, 1921 to Johnson Early and Viola George Fox in Stone County, Arkansas.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sartain, her oldest son, Donald Sartain, her parents, two sisters, and four brothers. She is survived by her son, Bill Sartain of Dixon, Calif, her daughter-in-law, Marlene Sartain of Little Rock, Ark., four grandchildren, and seven greatgrandchildren.

HOT SPRINGS - Marilu Ives, 79, of Hot Springs, formerlyof Stuttgart, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hot Springs.

Marilu was born November 14, 1932, in Stuttgart to Edward WillifordHarper and Vera Bellville Harper who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Stuttgart High School and a Methodist.

At the age of 20 with four children and only a high school education and married to a young farmer that did not graduate high school, but had a dream to become a millionaire, no one would have predicted Marilu would become the heart and soul of a couple that would become one of Arkansas’ great power couples. Together they made the perfect team - he had the dream and business sense and she had the compassion and goodness to generate loyalty and trust needed in a growing business. Together they built a transportation company and other businesses to satisfy her husband’s dream all while staying true to her dream of being a good daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and good friend to all who needed one. She was an inspiration and example to her children, grandchildren andgreat-grandchildren.

Her true essence is what every good person wants to be and she will live on for generations through the examples she set. She and her husband were owners of Terminal Truck Brokers which evolved into Harold Ives Trucking, and she was president of the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association. In later years, she was an amateur bass fisherman and a good crappie jerker.

Survivors are her husband of 62 years, Harold Ives; three sons, Tommy (Donna) Ives of Hot Springs, Garry (Gina) Ives of Stuttgart and Larry (Michelle) Ives of Wheatley; one daughter, Sharon (Darrell) Dickson of Brinkley; one brother, Sam Harper of San Francisco; one sister, Susie Grizzle of Nevada, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services, officiated by Ray Vester, are 3 p.m., Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Visitation is 4-6 p.m., Saturday at Turpin Funeral Home. MARIANNA - John P. (Jack) Dozier, retired farmer and ginner from Lee County died Thursday, January 12, 2012. He was born on September 22, 1918, in Moro, Arkansas, to Charles Edward Dozier and Ada Spivey Dozier. He attended schools in Moro and Marianna then graduated from the University of Arkansas having earned a degree in business agriculture. While at the university he became a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternityand was also commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the advanced R.O.T.C. program.

Following his discharge from active duty in World War II, where he achieved the rank of major, he returned to Moro where he worked with his father in the family business, Moro Mercantile and Gin Company and their farming operations. Mr. Dozier served on the Lee County welfare board, the Lee County Development Corporation and was a member of the board of directors at Lee Memorial Hospital. Mr. Dozier was also a member of Lee County A.S.C. Committee and past president of the Lee County Rural water association.

He was a Mason, a member of Julius Benham Post #5 of the American Legion having served as commander. He was honored to have served on the board of First National Bank of Marianna and served faithfully as a deacon at both Moro and Marianna Baptist Churches for many years.

Preceding Mr. Jack in death were his parents Charles and Ada Dozier, wife, Nelda Owen Dozier, three brothers, Floyd, Bingham and Jimmy and two sisters, Emma Edrington Collier and Marguerete Jones. Loving survivors include daughters, Jane Self from Hot Springs, Judy Griffin from Helena and son John from Hot Springs.

The family was blessed to have wonderful ladies who loved Jack and met his every need daily. Thank you, Brenda Buzzard, Malena Brown and Robbie Terrill for your faithfulness.

MARION - Lt. Col. Terrence O. Buchanan U.S. Army Retired, 83, of Marion, died Wednesday January 11, 2012, at his home in Marion, Arkansas. Lt. Col. Buchanan retired from the U.S. Army and was a member of the Marion United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of Post 5225 Marion and West Memphis V.F.W. and a former board member of EastArk Enterprises Sheltered Workshop. MONTICELLO - Shirley Jean McElroy Bell, age 80, of Monticello, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Ark. She was born October 23, 1931, in Ozark, Ark, to the late Earnest Hansell McElroy and Fernie Mae Vandagriff McElroy.

She was the widow of William Robert Bell, to whom she was married for 42 years. She was a retired college English professor and was of the Unitarian Universalist faith. Mrs. Bell was a 1950 graduate of Ozark High School and then attended Hendrix College, where she received her Bachelors of Arts degree in education in 1954. She obtained her Masters of Education degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1957 and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 1986. Mrs. Bell’s civic, community and professional activities were numerous. She was a former member of the Arkansas College Teachers of English Association, Arkansas Philosophical Association, Modern Language Association, South Central Modern Language Association, American Association of University Professors, American Association of University Women, Faculty Dames Club and the American Radio Relay League.

Her current memberships included the Monticello Art League, for which she was a board member and past president, Friends of the Library, board member of the Southeast Regional Library Association, American Rifle Association, Drew County Retired Teachers Association, Master Gardeners of the Delta, Uppity Women Coffee Group, Bluestockings Book Club and Southeast Arkansas Concert Association. Her many hobbies included painting, drawing, ceramics, amateur radio, gardening, reading, playing the organ and piano, crafts, interior design, photography, sewing, email, friends and family.

Survivors include her daughter, Roberta Alysoun Bell Laventhal and husband, Nahum, of New Orleans, La.; two brothers, John McElroy and wife Carolyn, deceased, of Texarkana, Texas; David McElroy and wife, Lisa, of Barling, Ark.; two sisters, Ann Hall and husband, Ralph, of Bryant, Ark.; and Charlene Creech and husband, Jim, of Jonesboro, Ark., and one grandson, Dylan Laventhal, of Baton Rouge, La.

The funeral service will be at 12:30 p.m., Sunday at the Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Ann Hilgeman officiating. Burial will be in the Plumerville Cemetery in Plumerville, Ark., at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Monticello Branch Library, 107 E. Jackson, Monticello, Ark. 71655. PINE BLUFF - Tommy Gale Holcomb, 60, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, went home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2012. He was born November 2, 1951, at Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, to Reverend Bill J. and Melba Greer Holcomb. He graduated from Watson Chapel High School in 1969. Tommy began his employment with Entergy in 1973, where he was still working when he met his tragic death. He was a faithful member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church where he served as deacon, usher and a choir member. He was also a member of the Holcomb Brothers Quartet. He was a captain in the Watson Chapel Fire Department, constable of Niven Township for over a decade and served in the United States Army Reserves until 1977. Tommy was an avid deer and turkey hunter and was a memberof Ramick Deer Club, where he served as president.

He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his loving wife, Beth Harvill Holcomb, whom he married on February 23, 1973, at Pine Bluff; two sons, Tommy Gene Holcomb and wife Sommer, Eric Holcomb and wifeMindy; five beautiful grandchildren, Austin, Hunter, Kylie, Kade, Raelee; his mother, Melba Greer Holcomb; four brothers, Bill, Mike. Terry and Danny; along with many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Watson Chapel Baptist Church. A service celebrating Tommy’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2012, at Watson Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Todd Howard and Reverend David Holcomb officiating. Burial will follow at Fitzhugh Cemetery. PHOENIX - Robert Carl of Phoenix left this life Jan. 5, 2012, at age 81. He was born in Battle Creek, Mich. Bob was husband to Pat, father to Teresa (David) Bear, Russ (Joni) Carl and Chris Carl, grandfather to Gloria LaRue (Tommy) Spears, Chris LaRue, P.J. Otis, Adriane Munger, and MacKenzie Munger, and brother to Norma Carl Baas. Bob is a former resident of NLR. As an active member of Sertoma Club, he received many honors and awards, served on the International Foundation Board, held every local club office, and chaired the NLR Sertoma Christmas Parade. A volunteer at Baptist Health Medical Center, NLR for 11 years he was the friendly smile at the admissions desk. His MGB and the British Motor Club held a special place in his heart. A member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, memorials may be made to Lakewood UMC or Sertoma, 1912 E. Meyer Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. 64132-1174. Plans for a memorial service in NLR will be announced at a later date.
