Chicken and Stuffing Crockpot (1)

Our easy Crockpot recipe with chicken and stuffing is a fun one. If you love a great casserole with your side dish and protein cooked together you have to try this one. Using boxed or a bag of Pepperidge Farm makes the prep simple too. (post may contain affiliate links present)

Chicken and Stuffing Bake

We are going to use fresh or thawed meat this go around. In a sauce our Crockpot Chicken Frozen Breasts turns out great but with this breading it releases too much liquid when defrosting so I wouldn’t recommend those. With that said you could swap out for thighs though. White or dark meat is delicious.

There are a bunch of different ways you can make a Crockpot Chicken Casserole. You can of course use everything except the Stove Top and serve that on top of rice. Add 1/2 cup of frozen vegetables in between the layers if you want to incorporate some peas and carrots in there too. It’s easy to change it up.

Crock Pot Chicken and Stuffing

This boxed breading works for more things than just making it as a side dish on the stove. You can crush it more and use it as a breading for your meat or incorporate it as a binder like we do in our Stove Top Stuffing Meatloaf recipe!

  • 4boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • Box ofstove top stuffing
  • Cancream of chicken soup10.5 oz.
  • 1cchicken broth
  • Salt and pepperto taste when done

If you really didn’t want to use boxed you could opt for a bag you can find at the store too. You would just need to measure it out to be the same amount as listed below. We do love Pepperidge Farm Sausage Stuffing during the holidays using that one.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Stuffing

Now if you had leftovers from your Stuffed Whole Chicken from the night before you could use that meat, and cook for less time. I would shred the meat and add on the bottom as directed here but you would only need closer to 2 hours or until the breading was moist and liquid was absorbed in that case.

  • Place the chicken breasts at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the stuffing mix with the cream of mushroom soup or chicken soup.
  • Spoon the stuffing on top chicken breasts in the slow cooker, spreading it evenly.
    • you could add 1/2 cup frozen peas and carrots or frozen green beans in between the layers
  • Pour the chicken broth over the stuffing mixture.
  • Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4-6 hours cooking time or until the chicken is cooked through and so tender you can shred them with two forks.
    • I do not recommend to cook on high with poultry
  • Once done, gently shred the chicken and gently fold in with the stuffing.

If you are wondering what to cook with chicken breast at the same time, this is sure to be a winner at your house. We add it to our meal planning at least once a month, especially during the cold Winter months when I just want a bowl of comfort food, period. Just one Crockpot Chicken Recipes on our site.

Chicken and Stuffing Casserole Recipe

If you wanted to try this in the oven you would want to follow our Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Casserole. That one uses many of the same ingredients as well as adding vegetables into the mix. Takes less time baked so if you are in a hurry I would go this route. It does get crispier on the top so the texture is different, and maybe more pleasing to you.

This is one of our favorite Easy Cheap Crockpot Meals you have to try. I am sure you have served these together before but not heated in the same pot together. When it is done you don’t need anything unless you want to add veggies or a salad. A dollop of sour cream on top is actually yummy too.

What are the cooking instructions for Stove Top stuffing?

If you make stove top with chicken in our recipe you don’t have to prepare it according to the back of the box directions. If you want to make it separate on the stove though you just;
1. Boil Water in a saucepan
2. Add Butter to the boiling water for added flavor.
3. Stir in Stuffing Mix once the water is boiling
4. Cover and Let Sit for a few minutes, usually around 5 minutes to absorb the liquid and become fluffy.
5. Fluff and Serve
